Brass Alloy Waterford Dutch Gag
Measure your horse before you go out to your local tack shop. This can be done with a tape measure. Simply put one end of the tape in the centre of your horse’s chest and the other end on the horse's buttocks where you would expect the rug to finish.
Horse rugs are sized in centimetres, inches or feet and inches - make sure you check what size rug you are getting as a 66" will not fit a 6'6" horse.
When you've bought the rug, take it home and try it on your horse over a clean bedsheet or clean summer sheet - make sure you leave all the tags on. If the rug fits then remove the tags and use, if not, you might be able to return the rug to the retail outlet you purchased it from as long as it is in a saleable condition- check with your retailer at the time you purchase the rug.

This Shires Brass Alloy Waterford Dutch Gag combines the actions of a Waterford multilink mouthpiece with the lever action of the Dutch Gag cheek to give a very strong action to this bit. The Waterford mouthpiece is made in Brass Alloy that is a combination of copper and a harder metal to create a durable, warm metal that can help encourage salvation. As the Waterford mouthpiece is made of many links it makes it difficult for the horse to take hold or lean on the bit. The dutch gag/continental cheeks act as a lever bit to give a downward action after a small initial lift on the poll, lips, bars and tongue, lowering head carriage, the lower the ring the more severe the action. It is recommended that this type of cheek is used either with double reins or Pelham roundings when using the lower rein holes. This bit is most likely to be used for cross country or hunting.
This bit can be severe and is recommended to be used under the supervision of or by an experienced rider.
