Prolite have become synonymous with technology designed to absorb impact and therefore maximise a horse’s comfort during work. Their unique flexible, cushioning layer of technology absorbs impact, disperses pressure over a wider contact area, and absorbs movement in order to remain still against the skin. Their anatomical girths for horses are especially popular and make use of this technology to improve comfort at the sensitive area of the girth. The anatomical shape of Prolite girths allows freedom of movement and so further increases comfort. Prolite pads make use of the same technology, reducing peak pressure by 25% on a well fitting saddle and over 30% on an ill fitting saddle, again alleviating discomfort at this sensitive area of the horse. The technology within these products is designed to help the horse maximise their performance and remain comfortable in their work.

How do you fit a Prolite pad?

The Prolite pad should sit between your saddle and saddlecloth. It should cover the entire area with which the saddle makes contact; if it does not cover the entire saddle area, it is too small. It is important to consult with a qualified saddle fitter with regards to using a Prolite pad, or indeed any half pad, on your horse, as it will alter the fit of your saddle. A Prolite pad can be used for shock absorption on a well fitting saddle, or shims inside a Prolite pad can help to correct the fit of an imperfectly fitting saddle, but should only be used on advice of a qualified saddle fitter.

Is a Prolite girth like a Fairfax girth?

The Prolite girth is a patented design (GB Patent: 2488030B Design Reg: 001839028) that is made under license from Fairfax Saddles Ltd’s intellectual property rights. The anatomical design of this girth is scientifically proven to increase the horse’s freedom of movement.

What are the benefits of the Prolite girths?

The technology within as well as the anatomical shape of the Prolite girths has been proven to improve the horse’s front leg extension and hock flexion, while showjumpers have improved their neatness in front over a fence, and demonstrated increased power on tack-off. Pressure has also been greatly reduced. Many horse owners report their horse appears more comfortable whilst being tacked up and during work with a Prolite girth.

Are Prolite girths made of leather?

No, Prolite girths are made of synthetic leather and so can be wiped clean without the need for conditioning or leather care.

How do I know if my horse needs a narrow gauge Prolite girth?

Some horses have a smaller space between their front legs, or a narrower rib cage, than others. If this space is less than 20cm, the horse would be classed as having a narrow gauge. As a general rule to ascertain whether your horse is a standard or narrow gauge, we advise placing a standard size sweat scraper between your horse’s front legs – if the widest point of the sweat scraper fits, a standard gauge will fit; if the sweat scraper is wider than the space between the front legs, a narrow gauge will suit best.
