Jeffries Reins

The length of rein required depends on the horse and rider - you would want just enough length that when you hold the buckle, the horse can completely relax and lower its head without coming to contact.

Typical rein lengths

48" - Pony length

52" - Cob length

54" - Full / Standard Horse length

60" - Large Horse length

One of the deciding factors in selecting the width of rein is the size of the hands of the rider typically riders with smaller hands prefer thinner reins for comfort.

Riders of stronger horses that may take hold or pull generally prefer wider reins for more even distribution of pressure on the palm.

A rider using a double bridle has a thicker top rein than the bottom and may reduce the width of what they would typically select for their snaffle rein to create more space in the hand.
