INTRODUCING THE HORSEWARE DRY LINER!

03 Mar 2023

Are you often in a hurry after riding, wanting to rug your horse after exercise without waiting for them to dry?

Designed to eliminate the need for a cooler and that long wait between untacking and being able to rug, the Horseware Dry Liner is a very handy rug to have in your horse’s wardrobe! No more looking for jobs to do while you wait for your horse to dry – simply brush or wash any sweat away and attach the liner to your horse’s Horseware liner-compatible rug to allow him to enjoy time in the field or be tucked up into bed whilst he is still cooling.

Lots of us juggle riding our horses with work, childcare, dog walking and various other commitments, often working our horses before work, or late into the evening after a busy day. When you are squeezing in a ride, the last thing you want to do is spend more time waiting to be able to rug your horse, whether you are wanting to turn them out in the field or put them to bed. The Dry Liner eliminates this waiting time, with three smart layers that wick away and evaporate moisture, maintain good ventilation even under a turnout rug, and stop the muscles from cooling too quickly.

The first layer, closest to the horse’s skin, is made of polar fleece that is soft to the touch, keeps muscles from cooling down too rapidly, and supports the horse’s hairs’ natural wicking system. This fleece keeps your horse comfortable, prevents muscles from cooling too quickly which can lead to stiffness and tying up, and begins the drying process.

Moisture is wicked away from the fleece into the 50g high loft fibrefill, the mid-layer. This technical mid-layer helps drive moisture further away from the horse’s skin, keeping your horse warm and helping your horse’s skin to dry more quickly. Prolonged periods of skin being damp can cause bacteria to develop, leading to sores and lumps, not to mention that your horse will feel the cold and may catch a chill. The more quickly he dries, then, with moisture driven further away from the skin, the better.

The moisture then reaches the top layer of the liner, which is a 3D ‘airmesh’ material. You may have come across this material in the Horseware Airmax Liner, the popular predecessor to this new Dry Liner. This material creates extra airspace between your horse’s skin and his outer rug, allowing all of the moisture that has been wicked away by the inner layers to evaporate. This layer helps the moisture to disperse, and is what stops your outer rug from becoming clammy or your horse staying wet.

We find this rug super handy for…

  • Turning your horse straight out after being ridden, allowing you to go about your day more quickly.
  • Rugging for the night straight after a bath.
  • As a lightweight liner – at 50g, this liner is perfect for adding a little more warmth to your turnout rug on chillier days, without over-rugging. It is recommended that this liner is used with rugs of a weight of 50g or over.
  • As a breathable, moisture-wicking cooler. This rug is designed to be used as a liner but there’s nothing to stop you putting it on by itself as a cooler! It will wick away sweat or water and keep your horse comfortable after exercise. Be mindful that there are no surcingles so best to keep your horse tied up to prevent rolling and the rug moving if wearing the liner alone.

What’s the difference between the Airmax Liner and the Dry Liner?

Horseware’s Airmax Liner has been a very popular liner in recent years, and the Dry Liner is a development of this innovation. The Airmax Liner was the first to use Horseware’s 3D airmesh material, creating a technical layer of ventilation between the horse’s skin and the outer rug. The new Dry Liner benefits additionally from the polar fleece and 50g mid-layer, which keeps the horse comfortable and wicks away moisture from the skin more quickly, before the airmesh allows it to disperse.

The Horseware Dry Liner is a very handy addition to your Horseware wardrobe, putting an end to those long wait times to be able to put a rug on after exercise. Discover the Horseware Dry Liner here.
