Deciding whether to feed a supplement and choosing what to feed can be an absolute minefield! We’re committed to bringing you honest feedback on the products we sell so you can see if they’ll be right for your horse or pony. This month we bring you a review of NAF Gastri Aid which was developed by leading veterinary nutritionists to provide daily protection and maintenance to the gut.
Hayley has been feeding Gastri Aid for around three years now and shares her thoughts below in our NAF Gastri Aid review.
Why did you pick NAF Gastri Aid?
It was recommended to me by our NAF representative for a show pony who was not a great eater and never seemed to hold much condition, she can also be slightly sensitive to girth up.
What are the best features of this supplement?
After starting on Gastri Aid, the pony started to really pick up eating wise, polishing off haynets and diving into her feed, she also was able to hold condition much easier and has looked better than ever. I think the combination of pro and pre biotics to help general gut health and antacids to protect the delicate stomach wall lining, really helps the pony to feel more settled and comfortable.
It has been particularly useful when travelling to shows, even upping the daily dosage to ensure the extra stress of travelling and stabling away doesn’t affect her.
What are the negatives of Gastri Aid?
The powder is quite light, it needs to be mixed in well to a feed as one snort in the bucket and it would blow away!
Would you recommend NAF Gastri Aid to a friend?
Absolutely, it would be my first port of call for a horse or pony who just isn’t doing very well even though they are eating. I would also recommend for any horses or ponies who are a little stressy or sensitive as the pro and pre biotics can only do good.
Top tips
Gastri Aid also comes in a larger tub, ideal for horses who are on the product long term, I also keep a smaller tub in the wagon so I always have a supply when feeding away from home.
