POWER PHASER FLY SPRAY REVIEW

12 May 2021

Yep, it’s that time of the year again! It feels like only yesterday we were battling with snow, ice and mud and yet suddenly it’s fly season again! One of our most asked questions in-store is “which fly repellent is best?”

Sadly this is a hard question to answer as it can vary horse to horse as well as varying with the types of flies you get in your area. That being said there are a couple of clear winners when it comes to volumes of sales, so we thought we’d put them to the test!

Leovet Power Phaser has long been one of our best-selling fly repellents. It’s available as both a gel and a spray and once people start using it they never seem to swap! The newly designed bottles feature a screw-on lid making them more robust so there’s no more accidents with lids popping off if the bottle is knocked over.

We asked two of our customers to gives us their honest opinions for this Leovet Power Phaser Fly Spray review!

How long have you been using Leovet Power Phaser Fly Spray?

I’ve been using it for years!

Around 4+ years I think.

Why did you select Power Phaser Fly Repellent?

I’d heard lots of good reviews from other people.

I was looking for a long lasting, strong fly repellent to use on horses and ponies living out 24/7 where they would have effective protection all day and night. Phaser ticked the boxes as the spray does really cling to the coat, even if it rains or they sweat.

What are the best features of Power Phaser?

It’s fairly long lasting and easy to apply, I started using the Phaser Durative as I couldn’t use a spray on my horse when I first got him. I moved onto the fly spray as he got used to sprays. The gel and sponge are so handy if your horse won’t tolerate sprays, and really works well at keeping biting insects off. It does seem to work much better than other sprays at keeping a larger range of insects away.

The spray is effective, the smell is so strong there is a reason the flies don’t like it! It is obvious when the ponies have been sprayed as the flies just do not land on them. You can also smell the spray on their coat, long after application so spraying once a day does give long lasting protection. I also like how the new Leovet 550ml bottles are made from recycled materials and are recyclable. The 2.5lt refill bottle is great, as well as being more environmentally friendly by saving additional 550ml bottles, it is also more cost effective when you are protecting multiple horses and ponies daily.

What are the negatives of Leovet Power Phaser?

The smell can be a bit off putting at first, and it does cling to you for a while, but you soon get used to it. The gel did tend to attract dirt on the horse when it was dusty, and you end up covered in it even with the sponge to put it on.

The smell of the product is very strong, (again probably why it is so effective!) however you don’t want to be spraying it and nipping out for lunch or off to work as the smell really does linger with you!

Both of our reviewers said they’d absolutely recommend this fly spray to a friend, with one concluding she’d never use anything else. It’s clear the smell is the overriding downside of this fly repellent but also what makes it so effective. One of our reviewers did note it was a shame a 1 litre bottle wasn’t available as it’s quite a big jump from 550ml to 2.5lt, which we’ll be passing on to the manufacturer.
