The Amigo Bravo 12 Turnout Rug has long been one of our best selling rugs. The Bravo 12 range features a 1200 denier polyester outer that’s waterproof and highly durable. Available in a range of different thicknesses, liner compatible and featuring a detachable neck, it was hard to see how this rug could be improved upon!
Well, Horseware have done it again! Introducing the new Amigo AmEco 12 Plus Turnout Rug made using a sustainable and eco-friendly rPET polyester. This incredible rug offers all the features we know and love from the Bravo 12 range whilst being significantly kinder on the planet – helping to reduce your carbon hoofprints! It’s so impressive it just won the Spoga 2021 Top Innovation award!
What is rPET fabric?
rPET is a sustainable fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. It gives waste a second life and helps to reduce the build up of plastic waste we’re all becoming more aware of. The production processes involved in making rPET require significantly less water and chemicals than manufacturing standard polyester fabric. It also produces an impressive 65% less greenhouse gas emissions than the production of virgin polyester yarn.
To produce rPET, bottles that might otherwise of polluted the earth and our oceans are collected and recycled into flakes. The flakes are melted down and spun into yarn which is then woven to become rPEt polyester. What’s really impressive is that this fabric is strong, durable and completely comparable to standard polyester – great news for ensuring the longevity of your turnout!
How much recycled material is actually used in each Amigo AmEco rug?
Every fabric element within your new Amigo AmEco turnout is made from rPET. This includes the 1200 denier waterproof and breathable outer, the inner lining, the fibrefill (where applicable) and all the webbing/binding material. So how many plastic bottles has your beautiful new rug recycled? A 6’3 Amigo AmEco 12 Plus Turnout uses an average of 218 recycled plastic bottles!
