Footwear Care & Cleaning

Fairfax & Favor use high-quality materials to make their products. How you need to treat these materials to care for and extend their life varies slightly.

For Leather products, it is important to carefully get any mud or dirt off as soon as possible to stop it drying the leather out. While with Suede products it is better to leave any dirt to dry, and then use a soft suede brush to remove the dried flakes.

Please don't expose either material to artificial heat sources or use direct sunlight as this care dry the materials out. Regularly air both.

Use a leather cream or conditioner every couple of months (Fairfax & Favor recommend Renapur for this). Clean spots, marks and stains as soon as possible. It is best not to allow them to get wet wherever possible, sometimes this can't be avoided so it is recommended to then leave to dry naturally and brush once dry.

Brushing against products and surfaces will be abrasive in nature and transfer colour so it is recommended to make sure your products don't rub against the same surface regularly to prevent damage.

Storage

Fairfax & Favor recommends keeping boots, shoes, bags, and accessories away from heat, damp, and direct sunlight. It is recommended that these items be stored in their dust bags and boxes away from artificial sources of heat. Artificial heat can cause leather to dry out, harden and crack.

Product-specific care guidelines

Shoes

Once in use, shoes can be treated with either Suede & Nubuck Protector once a month or Liqiprood Premium Protector every couple of months, more often if they are being worn a lot.

Store away from heat, damp, artificial heat sources and direct sunlight. It is recommended that shoes are stored in their dust bags and in their blue box when not in use.

Boots

It is recommended once you are happy with the fit of your boots and have worn them a few times that you treat them with either Suede & Nubcuk Protector (spray from a distance and leave to prove) once a month or Liquiproof Premium Protector every couple of months for suede, more often if wearing regularly or Renapur leather balsam for leather.

Liquiproof Premium Protector should be applied sparingly, section by section, brushing the product into the suede with a soft brush until covered.

With any protective treatment that you intend to use on your boots, it is recommended that a test spot is used in an inconspicuous part of the boots.

For mid-calf and tall boots, Fairfax & Favor recommend using Boot Trees to fill out the calf and help maintain their shape and prevent ankle creasing.

Clean dried dirt or marked fibres on the suede using a soft suede brush, brushing in the direction of the suede. With leather, clean marks with a neutral-coloured microfibre cloth and leave it to dry naturally. Remove mud and dirt immediately to stop moisture from being drawn from the leather.

Stand the bag upright, and don't use the handles to hang the bag as they may stretch.

If leaving for a long time, make sure to empty the bag, then cover zips or straps to avoid them imprinting or making a mark on the body of the bag.

In the eventuality that a manufacturing fault occurs, all of their products come with a generous 18-month warranty from the date of purchase. Normal wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse, and unauthorised repairs are not covered by the warranty. Your statutory rights are not affected. Proof of purchase will be required.
